Inpatient Services

The CRU has 10 beds available for inpatient use. Inpatient services are available 24 hours a day every day with the exception of 2 weekends per month. CRU staff consists of 8 full time nurses, 1 70% time nurse, a nurse manager, 2 clinical technicians, 1 laboratory technician and 1 clerk.


CRU staff participate in a wide range of studies and see research participants with a myriad of diagnoses. They have the experience and capabilities to adapt to a wide variety of protocols and procedures.


Methodologies available to investigators:

  • Development of orders and data collection forms
  • Assistance in obtaining demographic information
  • Obtaining vital signs and EKG
  • Obtaining blood, urine and stool samples
  • Initial evaluation and ongoing monitoring
  • Placement of intravenous lines
  • Administration of investigational agents
  • Monitoring post-procedural, post-conscious sedation
  • Nursing care for adult and pediatric research participants
  • Gathering and recording study data
  • Coordinating discharge and follow-up
  • Coordinating with hospital staff about research
  • Other research procedures
  • Processing, storing and shipping of samples
  • Monitoring and reporting adverse events
  • Answering research participant questions about studies

The CRU inpatient unit is located on the 3rd floor of General Hospital just outside of elevator C.
