Research Summary

My expertise lies in clinical pediatric cardiology and, specifically, cardiac electrophysiology. I am involved in diagnostic evaluations, pharmacotherapy, pacer and ICD follow-up. My research interests lie in resuscitation of children and specifically cardiac arrhythmias and defibrillation. I have most actively been involved in optimizing defibrillation techniques in children and evaluating automated defibrillation for children. Along with Dr. Denice Hodgson-Zingman, Department of Internal Medicine, I have recently established the UICH Familial Arrhythmia Clinic to provide information and care to families with inherited cardiac arrhythmia syndromes. I have been an investigator on several industry trials evaluating AED algorithms in children. I have previously been funded by EMS-C to study defibrillation in children and was a co-investigator on the NIH Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium, a multi-center clinical trial of interventions in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest and severe trauma. I am currently the Vice-Chair of the Pediatric Sub-Committee of Emergency Cardiovascular Care Committee of the American Heart Association.
