ICTS Research Coordinator Ann Rhomberg named top recruiter

Ann Rhomberg, RN/MSN, is a Clinical/Health Care Research Associate who has worked at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for almost three years.  Ann, a valued member of the ICTS Research Coordinator Core, was recently recognized as the top recruiter for the North American arm of the Study Of Diabetic Nephropathy With Atrasentan (SONAR study).

SONAR will ultimately recruit 4,148 volunteers between the ages of 18 and 85 from over 60 countries around the world. The clinical trial is posed to determine the safety of a new oral drug, Astrasentan, and its effectiveness at slowing kidney damage which often affects people living with type 2 diabetes.

“It feels great to help Iowans participate in an international study of a drug that may potentially keep diabetics out of the dialysis unit,” Ann said regarding her noteworthy accomplishment.  SONAR has reached over one-third of its recruitment goals and Ann is responsible for engaging subjects from the University of Iowa and VA hospitals to participate in the study.

Associate Professor of Internal Medicine Bradley Dixon, MD, is the University of Iowa-based principal investigator for SONAR.
